Intergenerational encounters
This project was carried out in collaboration with the NGOs Écho Communication and Justice & Démocratie and the Municipality of Forest.
Through a series of workshops, participants had the opportunity to meet, interview, and film seniors, representing the first generation of immigrants — for example from the Congo or the Mauritius Islands — as well as young people from the neighborhood, particularly second-generation youth, born or raised in Belgium to immigrant parents.
The workshops were conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, which required adaptations in the use of spaces and precautionary measures. This context also sparked a reflection on what it means to be together and share experiences in times of social distancing and uncertainty.
The workshops aimed to foster a shared reflection on what it means to live and share space in the neighborhood, on living together, on interculturality, and on issues related to racism. Through dialogue, interviews, and video-making, participants explored different generational and cultural perspectives, creating a collective narrative of the neighborhood and community life.
The resulting video captures the spirit of these intergenerational encounters, bringing together storytelling, shared experiences, and moments of connection between young people and seniors, and is later presented through a written and dialogued format.
